Why can't Nicolas Cage find a good script?

Over the past couple years Nicolas Cage has given us such horrible movies like Bangkok Dangerous, Ghost Rider, National Treasure 2 : Book of Secrets, Next and The Wicker Man. What has happened to Nicolas Cage's career? Why does he sign on to do these horribly written films? I don't think he needs the money? All I can say is that Nicolas Cage needs to find a new agent who can get him some good scripts.
I don't know why he's choosing such mediocre scripts (or in Ghost Rider's case a terrible script). I think he's hoping they'll pan out to be much better things that they are when he's first reading them. I also think he's pretty limited as an actor and that doesn't help him in his roles. The roles he fits in well, he really fits in well. But when he has to attempt something new I don't think he does well at all in many cases.
Also, I'm assuming National Treasure 2 was pushed out quickly without as much development because of how well the first one did and how much everyone enjoyed it. They probably wanted to cash in quickly on the momentum and made the story with much less development. If the first National Treasure didn't exist, the second would look much better as they're essentially the same movie with a few differences.

Nicholas Cage is just a stoic hollow man (IMO). He has no range of emotions, he is just bland. I saw a terrible movie with him as the protagonist (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) and his feeble depiction at the romantic hero was laughable. National Treasure 1 was pretty good though.
I agree. I think there are many times where his emotion (the one he does have) fits the character perfectly. He's really enjoyable in things like Matchstick Men and Lord of War. In things that require anything but what is the typical Cage emotion though, I don't really expect much.

I recently asked my co-worker why they did not like Cage and got a similar answer but it was a far more animated one. I said "Well, what about Face-Off?" she sat back in her chair, threw her hands out like guns and did some weird facial expression with an inaudible spoken word. "Well, how about Con Air?" same response. This went on until I conceded, the man has no range.

I don't think Nicolas Cage is all that great. Certainly overrated. I'm not hater, but I think with his receding hairline he either has to try a new hairstyle or go bald!
